Dear Students,

There is still a chill lingering the air, but it is never too early to set your sights on this summer.

Perhaps you are seeking to gain hands-on experience connected to your academic passion. Maybe you are graduating in May and looking to write your next chapter. Or possibly, you are hoping to extend your education abroad.

If any of these scenarios sound remotely familiar, our team has your back with many upcoming events and resources to help you network, explore options, and make connections.

Career fair season is almost here, and it is time to prepare for UF’s annual Career Showcase, which will be held February 8-11. Intentionally designed with you in mind, Career Showcase is the Career Connections Center’s largest employment and internship fair, spanning four days of virtual and in-person networking with top employers from all over the U.S. It is the perfect way to explore internships, part-time, full-time, and Co-Op opportunities. To see a full list of participating employers and to schedule an appointment, download the Career Fair Plus app. Additional appointment times will be added as we get closer to the event, so please continue to check the app for more information.

Before you attend Career Showcase, I encourage you to take advantage of all the workshops and individual support available to assist you. From resume help to guidance in crafting the perfect elevator pitch, these events and opportunities are intended to prepare you to meet with potential employers.

Now is also the time to explore study abroad opportunities. Through our partnerships with UF faculty and world-class educational institutions, the UF International Center offers hundreds of programs to study, research, intern, and participate in service learning across the globe. They are currently planning for summer 2021 programs (while also keeping a close eye on Centers for Disease Control’s guidance related to the pandemic), and we encourage you to connect with them for more information as you consider your summer plans.

Additionally, I am delighted to close this week’s letter by sharing some exciting news. U.S. News & World Report recently ranked several of UF’s online programs among the top in the country, furthering the university’s rise nationally. UF Online is among the nation’s top five best online bachelor’s programs for the third year in a row, rising to number 3 from its previously held number 4 ranking. Additionally, UF reclaimed its title as number 1 in the nation for those seeking an online master’s degree in education. Other online UF programs ranking among the top five include the master’s programs in business administration and engineering, as well as undergraduate programs in business and psychology. This wonderful recognition is due to the collective and tireless efforts of our students, faculty and staff; UF continues to soar to new heights due to their engagement, curiosity, and scholarship. I would like to especially recognize and thank our graduate students who serve as teaching assistants and graduate assistants. Your work and contributions are important and make a huge difference as you continue to prepare the next class of Gators for life beyond the classroom.

Congratulations, Gators! I continue to be proud of how you are conquering new challenges in pursuit of excellence. I hope you all have a restful weekend.

Be safe and be well,
Dr. D’Andra Mull
