Dear Students,
It is finally April, and the end of the semester is in sight.
This week, you have received emails about how to get your COVID-19 vaccine. This is a vital step in ending the pandemic and keeping our community safe.
Vaccinated students can opt out of routine testing and UF’s quarantine protocols for close contacts with COVID-19 cases.
There is still time to get your vaccinations before summer. We are adding more appointments every day and signing up is easy. Go to ONE.UF to register, just as you currently do to schedule COVID-19 testing. Once your appointment is confirmed, show up at your appointment day and time with a photo ID and a mask. Remember to wear something that allows easy access to your upper arm! If you have questions, visit our FAQ.
I urge you to make your vaccine appointment and help us #ChompOutCOVID!
As many of you saw from President Fuchs’ April Fools’ Day jokes yesterday, Artificial Intelligence is a big deal at UF. Globally, jobs requiring experience in AI have increased 75% in the last four years, and they are expected to grow even more in the future. AI is in demand in nearly every sector of employment.
Fortunately, UF has you covered! We recently launched the AI Across the Curriculum initiative to bring AI to all Gators.
Not sure if learning about AI is right for you? Consider a survey course, Frontiers of Artificial Intelligence. This 1-credit course, EGN 1935, offers introductory lessons on AI and non-technical talks from UF’s AI experts in health care, agriculture, transportation, biology, journalism and communications, business and much more.
If you are ready to get more AI experience, UF is offering an Undergraduate Certificate in AI that is suitable for any UF undergraduate. The two foundational courses – Ethics, Data, and Technology, or PHI 3681, and Fundamentals of AI, or EEL 3872 – are both are available for Fall 2021.
I encourage you to learn more about our AI initiatives and how you can get involved as an undergraduate or graduate student at http://ai.ufl.edu/.
As the semester winds down, now is the time to begin planning for what is next. Whether you’re registering for another semester of classes, studying for finals or preparing for your next chapter, know UF has resources to support you.
Lastly, I want to thank all the students who messaged me about their favorite activities at Recharge Days. It was wonderful to hear your ideas and what truly resonated. Congratulations to those of you who won prizes. Please be sure to follow me at @dr.dmull for more opportunities to win.
As we look to future semesters, we are excited to reimagine and enhance the student experience with new traditions, events and robust service-learning opportunities. Ensuring you have an incredible out-of-classroom experience to center your academic pursuits is essential in keeping our community vibrant and rewarding. I look forward to sharing more with you about plans over the next few months.
Have a restful and relaxing weekend!
Be safe and be well, Gators.
